OBESITY
Obesity is one of the most common diseases we see in dogs and cats. Why not make your New Year's Resolution to be getting your pet into shape with our offers.
Obesity can lead to a wide variety of problems. The commonest include Liver disease, Diabetes, Cardiac & Respiratory problems and worsening of Arthritis and mobility problems.
When discussing obesity of pets with owners the usual response is " It's not for what he eats - he only has 1 meal a day". The reality is that "you are what you eat!" The most important part of your pet's diet is the balance between food intake and energy expended in daily life. Remember that titbits must also be counted as part of the daily meal and cannot be exempt from inclusion.
The reality is that the only thing that will put weight on an animal is the food that it eats or liquids that it drinks other than plain water.
It does not matter how many or few meals your pet has but the TOTAL FOOD INTAKE is what matters. For example 1 tin of food can be given as 1 meal or split into 5 meals but it is still a tin of food. If your pet is not active and does not use energy in the day then it's energy requirements are much lower and the diet needs to be adjusted down accordingly.
Please ask us for advice about your pet's diet. We are concerned for the welfare of your pet, and an overweight pet is an unfit pet with the risks of ongoing problems in the future.
OBESTITY is killing your pet with "kindness" and is now considered by the RSPCA to be a prosecutable offence.
