Dispensing drugs
We normally dispense drugs at the time of consultation. We use fully animal licensed drugs for the safety of your pet. On occasions there is not a suitable animal licensed drug to use and so we may choose to use a licensed human product that is already commonly used in veterinary practice. This use is called “off licnce use” and the vet will explain any possible side effects with you and ask you to sign an “off licence consent form”.
Due to the cost of obtaining a licence for full use in a particular species there are only a very few drugs actually licensed for use in the smaller and exotic pets (e.g. rabbits, birds etc). We will ask you to sign a consent form that gives a life-long agreement for the use of any such unlicensed products in the treatment of these pets.
